Top 10 cars at the New York auto show;;;1

Honda Civic Concept
The Civic is a top-seller in nearly every country it is offered, so the surprise appearance of this concept is big news. Although it is primarily a mundane, efficient, affordable compact car, the Civic has been successful because it has made room for a dash of fun – a quality generally lacking in its competition. "This is the return of the sporty Civic," the company insisted at the concept's launch on 1 April.

It is certainly needed, according to Michelle Krebs, a senior analyst for the AutoTrader Group. "They have to give that car some mojo. The Civic was the one that started it all," she says.
The dramatically sleeker and more aggressive two-door concept originated in Honda’s US design studio – albeit it’s still nowhere near as wild as the Type R Civic derivative, which has been reserved for Japanese and European markets. The show car moves away from the North American Civic's cab-forward, flat-windshield theme in favour of a more muscular look with a longer hood. If nothing else, the concept's retina-searing fluorescent green paint will make an impression on show-goers.
Honda is certain this refresh will banish criticism of the outgoing model. Asked if he thought the production version of this concept, due in the fall, would hit the target, senior product planner Mike Willrich didn’t mince words: "I know we got it."
A turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine will be part of that solution, along with a naturally aspirated base engine of unspecified displacement.
And that Type R, lusted after in vain by fans outside of Europe and Japan for years? Honda confirmed it would be added to its North American portfolio, sometime after the redesigned Civic goes on sale. (Credit: Jeff Jablansky)
