Top 10 cars at the New York auto show;;;;;6

Lexus RX350
Five years ago, the Lexus RX faced 10 competitors in the US’s premium mid-size crossover segment, and yet it held a quarter of the market. Today, Toyota’s luxury subsidiary says the RX faces 16 segment competitors, and yet it maintains its iron grasp on 25% of all premium mid-size crossover sales.
Each new entrant claims to be the one to peel customers away from Lexus’s dominating RX, but the all-new model introduced in New York should only make that job harder. RX engineers have continued to refine the things Lexus customers like about the RX, while adding a bit of the flair and drama that earlier editions might have lacked.
The RX350's revised 3.5-litre direct-injected gasoline V6 engine now achieves 300hp and drives through a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The company's other news was a focus on a suite of new active safety technologies, called Lexus Safety System+, which includes Volvo-like automatic collision-avoidance braking, which will be available on the RX for just $650 in the US. (Credit: Jeff Jablansky)
