The
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released the wife of
Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Toyin, after intensive and
extensive interrogation that lasted for seven hours Tuesday, July 28,
2015.
Mrs. Saraki is being investigated by the EFCC over alleged large deposit of money into her company accounts when her husband was Kwara State Governor.
Five senators – Dino Maleye, Peter
Nwaobosi, Abdul Abubakar, Binta Mashin, Isa Misau – and about twenty
members of the House of Representatives, along with the Speaker of the
Kwara House of Assembly, Ali Ahmad accompanied Mrs. Saraki to the EFCC
headquarters in Abuja in a show of solidarity.
The EFCC investigation is widely believed to be a witch-hunt by the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership over losing out to her husband in the leadership tussle at the Nigerian Senate.
