Three weeks
from now, Ringo Starr will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of
Fame in Ohio and given a prize for musical excellence, making him the
final member of The Beatles to be honoured in such a way.
As
befits a man who banged the skins in the biggest band of them all,
however, Ringo is not heading quietly towards old age. Lifetime
achievement gongs may come and go but he is still making plenty of
noise: Postcards From Paradise, his 18th solo album, arrives on Monday
hot on the heels of an American tour.
Like
most of the previous 17, six more than he managed with The Fab Four,
the album is a collaborative one. Ringo has often got by with a little
help from his friends, here including Dave Stewart, Todd Rundgren,
organist Benmont Tench and Joe Walsh, of The Eagles, who is married to
Starr’s sister-in-law Marjorie Bach.
