'I raped and killed her because I was bored', Teenager confesses

The 19-year-old suspect identified as Helmon Betwell, in his statement to the police admitted that he sexually assaulted and killed the woman because “there was nothing better to do.”

He also said that he did not know the victim and picked her at random adding that she "was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Betwell, has since been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree theft.

Lt. Scott Baxter of the Dubuque Police Department, said that the woman identified as Nancy Ann Krapfl, was found without identifying information and with serious facial injuries.

A 65-year-old man tipped off the police after he saw the teenager assaulting the woman around 6:00 p.m. in a vacant property.

According to court documents, Betwell fled soon as he sighted a witness of the crime, The woman was taken to Unity Point Health Finley, where she died as a result of the assault, police said.

Betwell is being held on $1 million bail.
