All Open Drugs Market Would Be Shut Down By July 1st – FG

The Federal Government on Friday June 26th 2015 said, with effect from Wednesday, July 1, 2015 they would will commence the implementation of the National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDGs) by strengthening the organized drug distribution system.

The Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health, Mr Linus Awute, made these known on Friday in Abuja.
Awute said: “We are hopeful that the existence of open drug markets in the country will be a thing of the past as the drug distribution system of the country has remained uncoordinated, chaotic and has resulted in the circulation of fake, adulterated, substandard and counterfeit drugs.”
Awute noted that the irregular and uncoordinated drug distribution poses a very big challenge to the pharmaceutical sector in particular and the Federal government in general considering the negative impact the situation has on the entire healthcare delivery system of the country.
Regulatory agencies such as the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and NAFDAC will resume the exercise of their mandate to ensure full compliance.
